Abstract

The growing interest in the domain of human-human cooperation mediated by computational artefacts has led to the multiplication of field studies but in the same time to a lack of useful conceptual frameworks that could facilitate the articulation between empirical evidences and design principles. Nevertheless many approaches have been proposed (situated action, distributed cognition) to support the definition of the theoretical foundations of CSCW. After a brief presentation of two approaches we will present a point of view focused on the notion of Shared Context which aims at systematically explore the design space when designing new cooperative settings.
