Abstract

Using an original panel data and factorial analysis, this article captures a part of the learning process of home Net surfers, from a cognitive and experiential point of view. It shows the existence of several phases of learning: the browsing of the Web, through relatively long but not very frequent sessions, followed, after a relative intensification of uses, by utilitarian practices of the Web, through shorter and more frequent sessions. It also appears that the development of Internet surfing and of e-commerce are relatively independent. A few indications suggest that a new dynamic is possible with the new access technologies.
