In the early 80's the strategic research field discovered that the interorganizational information systems were becoming a new strategic variable. Initially used for internal processes, information systems extended their scope to the outside of organizations, towards suppliers and especially customers. These new information links allowed numerous companies to build or to consolidate a competitive advantage. Competitive structures and technologies have evolved a lot since then. Particularly, in many industries, electronic supermarkets have replaced information systems interorganizational. Therefore, one can wonder if these information systems are still at the origin of a lasting competitive advantage. Literature analysis shows that competitive advantage needs to be precisely defined and that it depends on firms' abilities to reinforce specific resources and to redefine new organizational frameworks, especially customer oriented ones. How to Cite
