Technologies de l’information, contrôle et panoptique: pour une approche deleuzienne

Le concept de panoptique développé par M. Foucault a été largement utilisé dans la recherche en systèmes d’information (SI) et en théorie des organisations afin de décrire les formes récentes de contrôle organisationnel qui se sont développées avec le recours massif aux technologies de l’information et de la communication (TIC). Ce cadre s’est longtemps avéré pertinent, mais les caractéristiques nouvelles des TIC, comme l’ubiquité, nous amènent à repenser les dispositifs de contrôle organisationnels. Cet article mobilise les travaux de G. Deleuze afin de proposer une relecture des systèmes de contrôle, intégrant les usages des technologies ubiquitaires et les nouveaux espaces-temps dans lesquels elles opèrent. Afin de confronter ce cadre conceptuel à la réalité organisationnelle, une étude de cas est menée au sein d’une société de conseil. L’étude de cas met en évidence un enchevêtrement de mécanismes de contrôle, illustrant l’intérêt de l’approche deleuzienne, sans définitivement rejeter l’approche foucaldienne du panoptique, suggérant ainsi un emboitement sous tension des deux perspectives.
