Stress de l’e-mail : vers une nouvelle compréhension de ses causes et impacts

Résumé

Le courrier électronique est source d’ambivalence pour ses utilisateurs, partagés entre opportunités de
productivité et menaces de surcharge. Cet article conceptuel entend éclairer comment l’usage de l’e-mail
(réception comme envoi) engendre des perceptions à la fois de menace (stress ou détresse) et d’opportunité
(eustress). Il résume les lignes de force de la littérature en un modèle transactionnel du stress de l’e-mail
distinguant les expériences des expéditeurs de celles des destinataires et, ce faisant, ouvre de nouvelles
pistes pour des recherches empiriques futures et un usage plus stimulant et moins négatif de cet outil de
communication.

Jean-Francois Stich, ICN Business School

Dr. Jean-François Stich est Professeur Associé à ICN Business School, membre titulaire du CEREFIGE, laboratoire de recherche en Management de l'Université de Lorraine, et responsable adjoint de l'équipe de recherche Organisation & Ressources Humaines du CEREFIGE. Il possède une Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) de l'Université de Strasbourg, un PhD en Management de Lancaster University Management School (Royaume-Uni), un Master en Business Management de l'EDHEC Business School et un MSc en Comportement Organisationnel d'Aston Business School (Royaume-Uni). Ses intérêts de recherche portent sur la psychologie et la gestion du travail virtualisé, couvrant des thèmes tels que le technostress, les interactions virtuelles, la cyberdéviance, le télétravail, ou les équipes virtuelles. Il a publié dans des revues telles que Information Systems Journal, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Information Technology & People, New Technology, Work and Employment, Personnel Review et la Revue française de Gestion.
